Specimen Trident Maple Bonsai – Exhibition Quality Acer Buergerianum

An exceptional specimen Trident Maple bonsai (Acer buergerianum) displaying the age, power and refinement expected from a serious exhibition-quality deciduous bonsai.

Measuring approximately 80cm high x 80cm wide, this is a substantial and mature tree with an impressive nebari, established branch structure and developed ramification. Specimens at this level of maturity are considerably less common than younger development material and offer immediate presence within an established bonsai collection.

The tree also produces an excellent winter image, when the foliage falls and its underlying structure, powerful trunk and fine branching can be fully appreciated.

About This Trident Maple Bonsai

This individual specimen is planted in a high-quality Japanese Tokoname bonsai pot, stamped and made by master potter Mr. Watanabe Kakuyuki (Kakuzan).

The quality and provenance of the pot provide an appropriate pairing for a Trident Maple of this maturity and refinement.

Powerful Nebari & Considerable Age

One of the defining characteristics of this Trident Maple bonsai is its impressive nebari.

The established surface roots provide a broad and powerful foundation, visually anchoring the substantial trunk and contributing significantly to the tree's sense of maturity.

A convincing nebari is one of the most desirable characteristics of a high-quality Maple bonsai and takes considerable time to develop.

Combined with the aged trunk and established proportions of this specimen, it creates the impression of a mature landscape tree reproduced in miniature.

Developed Structure & Fine Ramification

Above the powerful base, the tree displays an established branch structure with developed ramification.

Increasingly fine branching is essential to creating convincing scale in a mature deciduous bonsai. It also becomes particularly important during winter, when the entire framework of the tree is exposed.

With appropriate ongoing care and refinement, the existing structure provides an excellent foundation for the tree to continue improving.

Exceptional Winter Image

This Trident Maple offers a particularly impressive winter silhouette.

Once the leaves have fallen, the powerful nebari, aged trunk, primary branches and increasingly fine ramification become completely visible.

This ability to remain visually impressive during dormancy is one of the characteristics that distinguishes a highly developed deciduous specimen from younger bonsai material.

As spring returns, fresh foliage completely transforms the composition before the tree progresses through its summer and autumn displays.

Japanese Tokoname Pot by Kakuzan

An important feature of this specimen is its high-quality Japanese Tokoname bonsai pot by Mr. Watanabe Kakuyuki, known as Kakuzan.

The pot is stamped and provides additional provenance and collector interest to the overall composition.

With a bonsai at this level, the relationship between the tree and its container becomes an important part of the presentation. The quality Japanese Tokoname pot provides an appropriate setting for the age, scale and refinement of this Trident Maple.

Trident Maple Bonsai Care in the UK

Acer buergerianum is an outdoor bonsai tree and should experience the natural changing seasons and winter dormancy.

A bright outdoor position with good natural light and airflow is ideal throughout the growing season.

This particular specimen would benefit from additional winter protection during periods of hard frost or prolonged very low temperatures. Protection can be provided without treating the tree as an indoor bonsai; it should still experience a normal cool winter dormancy.

Water thoroughly throughout the growing season and avoid allowing the root ball to dry out completely, particularly during periods of warm weather.

Given the maturity and refinement of this tree, ongoing work should concentrate on maintaining its established structure, preserving its ramification and making considered improvements over time.

A Serious Trident Maple for the Collector

At approximately 80cm x 80cm, this is a powerful and highly developed Acer buergerianum bonsai with considerable presence.

Its combination of age, substantial nebari, mature structure, fine ramification and excellent winter image makes this a tree suitable for serious collectors and exhibition display.

The addition of a stamped Japanese Tokoname pot by Kakuzan further enhances the provenance and overall quality of the composition.

Mature Trident Maples at this level are not commonly offered for sale, making this a particularly interesting opportunity for a collector seeking an established specimen Trident Maple bonsai rather than younger development material.

The photographs show the actual Trident Maple bonsai tree for sale, so you will receive this individual specimen rather than a stock example.
